The Orchard, located at Pathfinder’s Drive in Lancaster and previously known as Oaklands was officially opened by Eric Ollerenshaw OBE MP for Lancaster and Fleetwood on Monday 11 August 2014. The unit has undergone significant redevelopment to become a mental health inpatient unit for adults as part of Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s commitment to provide modern mental health care across Lancashire.  The unit will be supported by high quality specialist community based services with a single point of access for people in crisis. The unit will also make use of BT’s NerveCentre system, which will replace paper-based processes with electronic solutions which enables patient information to be communicated more effectively and efficiently.

Heather Tierney-Moore, Chief Executive at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“I would like to thank Mr Ollerenshaw OBE MP for joining us on the day to officially open the unit. We are delighted at the results of the redevelopment of The Orchard. The unit will provide the best in modernised care to the people of Lancashire who require our services and support. The NerveCentre will allow staff instant access to the most up to date patient information, which in turn releases more time to spend caring for patients.

“I would also like to thank the staff involved in the redevelopment and their dedication to the project in making it such a success. Our service users, local residents and partner organisations have also played an integral part in the works by providing us with their views on the design as well as helping to pick the name for the site.”

Eric Ollerenshaw OBE MP who officially opened the new-look unit said:

“This is a real step forward for mental health treatment and I am grateful for all the work that has clearly gone into the project which sets a new high quality benchmark for the rest of the service to aspire to. Lancaster clearly leads the way for the rest of the county.”
