Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group

Posted on the 13th March 2015

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Rheumatology Service and its well established Patient Support Group, led by service user Harry Goulding, have partnered with the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) to provide a support group for people living with the condition.  The launch was held at the Minerva Centre in Preston with a fantastic turn out of people, including those living with the condition as well as their family and carers. On the night people took part in a Q&A with members of the Rheumatology Service, as well as being able to discuss their experiences with others.

Elizabeth MacPhie, Consultant Rheumatologist at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“This is a great move for our patient support group.  The partnership with NRAS will no doubt raise the profile of the group.  We were really pleased to see such a great turn out and were happy to see everyone get so much out of the evening. People were able to ask our panel of healthcare experts, questions about the disease and find out about services and support available to them. It’s important that people know what’s out there and have the opportunity to talk to people in a similar position about their experiences. We will be offering members of the group the opportunity to have their say on what they would like to see offered from the service which will help shape the long term future of patient care based on the patient’s requirements.”

Leanne Hornsby who attended on the evening said:

“The event was well pitched and very informative and it was good to hear inputs from the clinical team. A job well done!”

The group will be running regular sessions and reviewing frequency depending on demand. For more information about the local rheumatology services please visit or visit NRAS website for the latest information on the support groups
