Stay safe during party season!

Posted on the 24th December 2014

Lancashire’s Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) service is reminding people to ensure they don’t end up with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or unintended pregnancy this Christmas.

The festive season is a time for socialising, spending time with loved ones and maybe even getting a kiss under the mistletoe. When alcohol is flowing inhibitions can be lowered which is why it’s so important to be prepared for unplanned sex which could result in an STI or unwanted pregnancy.

Sue Capstick, Clinical Business Manager for the CaSH Service at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“Sometimes it’s hard to remember to protect ourselves especially in the heat of the moment or after a few drinks. Alcohol can cause you do things you wouldn’t normally do and that’s why it’s important to think ahead which can prevent regrets later.

“By carrying condoms, being aware of what to do and who to call, people can protect themselves from a sexually transmitted infection or unwanted pregnancy. If you use a daily method of contraception such as the pill, remember to make sure you have enough for over the Christmas period.”

The service has a single telephone number for anyone wanting to find out details about their local clinics and can be contacted on 01772 401140. The team provide services for anyone living in Preston, Chorley, Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Blackburn with Darwen. For more information on the services provided please visit
