Stop Smoking with the support of a celebrity!

Have you got what it takes to sign up for Stoptober this year and stop smoking for 28 days? If you complete the challenge, you’ll be more likely to stop smoking for good and save money in the process!

The Quit Squad at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is encouraging smokers in Central Lancashire to take part in the national challenge led by Public Health England to quit the habit for good! Sign up this year and a host of celebrities will be on hand with exclusive video support to keep you motivated! This year’s campaign enlists Al Murray, Bill Bailey, Rhod Gilbert and Shappi Khorsandi to help quitters through this difficult challenge.

With the smoking ban in cars coming into effect from October 1 and e-cigarettes to be restricted to over 18s it has never been a better time join the nation and stop during the month of October. The benefits to quitting are endless from a better sense of smell and taste to breathing easier and protecting your family from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Julie Trezise, Quit Squad Service Manager at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

"As a service our mission is to help as many people as possible stop smoking for good. Evidence shows that you are 5 times more likely to quit for good if you complete the challenge and can feel happier and more relaxed in the long term after stopping. Smoking is one of the biggest causes of illness and preventable death accounting for 80,000 deaths in England a year which is why it’s so important to encourage and support those who want to make a change and lead a healthier life."

In 2014 over 250,000 smokers across England and Wales completed the 28 day challenge and national statistics reveal that the number of people smoking in England is currently at a record low which shows that a tobacco-free generation is in sight.

As a health and wellbeing provider the Trust takes its responsibility to support people’s overall well-being seriously. Our 7,000 employees have a lot of contact with local people and we aim to make every contact with them count by taking these opportunities to have health chats about their lifestyle choices and the impact of these on their health. The focus is on addressing those lifestyle factors such as smoking, drinking, poor diet and lack of exercise as these are the four main things that can lead to someone getting serious diseases such as heart disease or cancer. By having these health chats as a routine part of a person’s appointment we can support them to make some positive changes, increase their quality of life and ultimately improve overall health.
