Take expert help to quit smoking on No Smoking Day

Posted on the 8th March 2016

With No Smoking Day on 9th March, smokers in Lancashire can visit special drop-in clinics across Central and East Lancashire this week for help quitting smoking.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust"s Quit Squad is urging people wanting to kick the habit to benefit from expert help to take the first steps towards a healthier smoke-free life. Stop Smoking Service events are being held in Preston, Accrington, Chorley, Clayton Green and Blackpool on 7-9 March.

Julie Trezise, Stop Smoking Service Manager, said, "People don"t always realise the serious harm smoking can do to their health. Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death and illness in the UK with around 100,000 people dying from smoking each year. It"s because of this we"re offering support and information to help people stop. You"re four times more likely to stop with expert help and advice than alone and that"s all the more reason to work with us.

"We"ve got informal sessions that are tailored for individual people. Smokers have nothing to lose, just give it a try and see how it goes. We"ve also got specially trained advisors who are friendly, approachable and will not judge you. We"re here to help and urge everyone to attend and come forward," she added.

Smoking increases your risk of developing more than 50 serious health conditions and causes about 90% of lung cancers. It also causes cancer in other parts of the body, and damages the heart and blood circulation, increasing risk of coronary heart disease, heart attack and strokes.

A number of one-to-one clinics are also available for people who would like to book specific appointments, in addition to drop-in clinics (no appointment required) and groups.
