Service users from Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Guild Lodge unit in Preston organised a Summer Fayre to display and sell artwork from a recent creative project.
The Social Events Committee, run by service users at Guild Lodge (secure inpatient unit), joined forces with the Card and Craft Enterprise group to arrange an Arts and Crafts Summer Fayre. The day was for service users, professionals and other creative partners to display their artwork from a number of recent Occupational Therapy Treatment sessions as part of their recovery process.
Service users created their own crafts, pottery and horticulture all of which was displayed and available for purchase on the day. The day also included displays from other creative ventures at the unit including; The Grow Your Own Community Project, Recovery College and Whittingham Lives.
Patsy Probert, Associate Director for Allied Health Professionals at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:
“The Summer Fayre was a great success, with artwork forming a big part of the recovery journey for service users. Alot of work had clearly gone into the day with an amazing selection of craft, pottery, wood craft, photography, needlecraft on display and for sale. There was even an opportunity to beat the clock on the rowing machine as part of the promotion of health and wellbeing and accessible exercise in the unit.
“The Recovery College initiative was also on display collecting thoughts and ideas from service users to build and develop on this brilliantly successful model in promoting wellbeing. I was thrilled to be asked to judge the Scarecrow competition which was an incredible array of creative ideas! The winner being Michael Jackson with Old MacDonalds Farm as the runner up, and all others highly commended!
“We hope this will be a regular event and another opportunity for service users to raise funds for their projects and display their creative work.”
