New sexual health clinic in Nelson and Colne College

Posted on the 26th September 2017

Lancashire Care’s Contraception and Sexual Health Service (CaSH) in partnership with Brook, the young people’s charity, have opened a new sexual health service for under 25s at Nelson and Colne College.

Looking after your sexual health is an important part of general health and wellbeing, and CaSH encourages everyone under the age of 25s to take responsibility for their sexual health.

The new walk in clinic for college students is located at Nelson and Colne College and allows people aged up to 25 to see health specialists who provide comprehensive contraceptive services and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections including HIV in a single appointment.

Rachel Emmott from the Community Sexual Health team said: “We are delighted to be able to offer sexual health services to under 25s from Nelson and Colne College. Under 25s can access free condoms, contraception, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and advice and information in a single appointment. We hope that young people make the most of this new clinic and look forward to welcoming new and existing clients.”

Students can visit the walk in clinic starting 3 October; the clinic will be open every Tuesday during term time from between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Development of this new service in East Lancashire forms part of Lancashire Care’s mobilisation of the new under 25s’ sexual health services commissioned on 1 April 2016. The clinic has been opened to ensure that under 25s have easy access to bespoke sexual health services designed to help meet the sexual health needs of under 25s in the area.

Earlier this year, the Trust’s CaSH service was awarded the Lancashire LGBT Quality Mark, a quality assurance programme for service providers, assisting in measuring how well the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender service users, volunteers and staff are met.
