Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service's Wellbeing Programme Success!

Posted on the 11th December 2017

Health professionals and service users came together to celebrate a programme of work delivered by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s North Lancashire Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team.

Trust staff, partner organisations and service users attended the ‘Time to Shine’ Event held at Lancaster and Morecambe College last week. The event focused around the team’s ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ programme, which aims to aid those who come in to contact with the criminal justice system and support people through the first six weeks following leaving custody.

The ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ were developed by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) and are evidence based mental health messages aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of the whole population:

•    Connect
•    Be Active
•    Take Notice
•    Keep Learning
•    Give

The programme delivers the wellbeing messages through a six-week course which consists of individual exercises, small group sessions and discussions. The programme which has been proven to improve wellbeing, provides service users with tools, techniques and resources to improve their overall wellbeing and gives the opportunity to focus on their strengths and identify how they can use these to build resilience.

Joanna Johnson, Deputy Team Manager for the North Lancashire Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“Having service users present at our Time to Shine event allowed us to demonstrate the benefits of the Five Ways to Wellbeing programme and the impact this has had on the lives of those who have completed the initial sessions and continue to attend with a view to becoming co-facilitators.

“The service users spoke with pride around how their lives have changed and are passionate about sharing their experiences with others; I am proud of the team, which includes service users, and how they continue to work together in order to promote the Five Ways to Wellbeing within the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team and the wider community!”
