Commitment to Research

The Lancashire Clinical Research Facility has been shortlisted in the in the North West Coast Research and Innovation Awards. The facility sees the collaboration of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and Lancaster University.

The new NIHR Lancashire Clinical Research Facility (CRF) has been shortlisted for Clinical Research Site of the Year Award, for its work in discovering new treatments and improving care for the future. The NIHR Lancashire Clinical Research Facility, based at Royal Preston Hospital was opened officially in November last year and is one of only 23 NIHR clinical research facilities in the country.

The facility is an innovative, collaboration providing a unique combination of both physical and mental health research expertise. The facility provides people in the community with the opportunity to take part in early-phase clinical research trials for dementia, neurosciences, oncology and many more.

Professor Max Marshall, Medical Director at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:


“We are extremely proud that our forward-thinking partnership with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and Lancaster University has been shortlisted for a North West Coast Research and Innovation Award.

Our state of the art, modern facility is situated in the grounds of Royal Preston Hospital meaning that people are coming to take part in trials in a partnership setting between a local community wellbeing provider, Acute Trust and university. Partnership working is extremely important to us, as working together means we can include a combination of expertise and provide the highest quality service for the people that we serve.

There is so much fantastic research taking place in Lancashire and we look forward to celebrating our efforts to improve patient care, both now and in the future!”

This is the only NIHR CRF in Lancashire so it means people across the county can be involved in revolutionary research studies which will help us develop new treatments for future generations. It is testament to all of the hard work that went into its development and the great work that it is enabling us to complete.”

The North West Coast Research and Innovation Awards celebrate the excellent work being undertaken across the region in clinical research and innovation in healthcare. More specifically, the awards aim to demonstrate how clinical research and innovation have an impact on patient care.
