Peer support workers wanted to help people with mental illness and substance misuse issues

Posted on the 12th February 2019

People who have experience of mental illness in the Blackpool area are being encouraged to provide peer support to people with mental illness and substance misuse issues as part of a new project that has been launched by Lancashire Care and The Calico Group.

The call is part of a new initiative that Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust has launched with one of their partners, The Calico Group, to find peer support workers who are supportive, understanding and able to empathise with others.

The peer support workers would be given the opportunity to work alongside mental health professionals to increase and enhance the support provided to people with mental illness and substance misuse issues.

Louise Giles, Head of Transformation at Lancashire Care, said:

“We’ve partnered up with The Calico Group to embark on this new initiative to identify peer support workers in the Blackpool area who have experience of mental illness and substance misuse and would be able to work with mental health professionals to help service users. If you think you could use your experience to help someone else, then we would love to talk to you about the opportunity to work within our teams using the value of your experience to help others in their journey. There’s a number of roles at several locations and we’re really keen to hear from people who may be interested in being a part of this fantastic project.”

Nicola Crompton-Hill, Director of Integrator Services at The Calico Group said:

“We believe this is an excellent and exciting opportunity for people who want to make a difference to the lives of others. If you have the passion and expertise to provide people with support, and you have a lived experience that is essential for encouragement and understanding, you can really help someone else to take the first steps toward a life worth living. The revolutionary approach of this project has the potential to make a huge impact on people’s wellbeing.”

There are various roles in several locations around Blackpool. For more information, please contact the team on where you will receive further information about the positions available.
