    What is Total Communication?

We communicate in lots of different ways, so using a total communication approach is about supporting, accepting and responding to all attempts that children and young people use to communicate.

It is important for children with limited language or significant difficulties speaking or learning language have alternative ways of communicating

Creating a ‘total communication' environment is about everyone supporting and enhancing your child's ability to communicate through any means

Using other communication methods to support and develop your child's existing communication helps your child feel less frustrated and keeps them motivated to communicate.
