Things to consider when you are moving to the UK and on arrival.

Luggage allowance

Every airline has a different luggage allowance. Once you have received your flight date and tickets, please check your luggage allowance and restrictions.

Required Documentation

Please ensure you bring with you the original versions of the official documents you have provided. This includes passport, qualifications, nursing registrations, IELTS / OMT / English Language requirements, experience certificates, CBT outcome, Overseas Police Check (issued in last 6 months), and the decision letter from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Electrical equipment

Please be aware that when using any electrical equipment that you have brought from a country outside of the UK that the voltage and frequency will be different from your home country. This means that it is not always safe to use electrical equipment from a foreign country so please check the voltage supply before you plug anything in. The normal voltage and frequency of the electrical supply in the UK is 230 v 50 Hz where as in India it is 250 v 50 Hz.

Money

The pound sterling (£), commonly known as the pound is the official currency of the UK. You will need to bring over some money to keep you going until your first month’s pay. Following this, your pay will be on the 26th of each month. We will try to arrange advanced payments however these will not be immediate so please keep this in mind when budgeting your money for travel. An advance payment of £200 cash will be deducted from your first salary. On arrival in the UK, support will be given to you when opening a bank account.

Water

Tap water is safe to drink throughout the country unless it is indicated otherwise. Buying a washable water bottle is a good way to save money and stay hydrated.

Mobile phone sim cards

You will be given a sim card on arrival in the UK.
