The therapy team have identified that your child has a specific need that would benefit from attendance in clinic. The nursery/school attendance record of children should not be impacted if their absences are related to NHS appointments.
During your appointment
- The appointment can last up to 60 minutes but this is dependent on the areas that the therapist wishes to assess and on how engaged the child is with the assessment.
- We require someone with parental responsibility to attend the first appointment.
- Students may be in attendance at the appointment.
- Please note that an interpreter will be in attendance at this appointment if requested.
What happens if I am late for my appointment?
If you are more than 15 minutes late we may need to reschedule your appointment.
Need to cancel or reschedule? Please call us at least 24 hours in advance. It helps us, and it helps other families receive timely care. Our voicemail system is available 24 hours a day - it’s okay to leave a message.
Speech and language therapy appointment
Before your appointment you will be sent a case history questionnaire to complete to help us learn more about your child’s overall development and your concerns. You may not know all of the answers to the questions and this is fine. Please bring this questionnaire to the appointment with you. If your child wears glasses or hearing aids please ensure they are worn/brought to the appointment.
Occupational therapy or physiotherapy appointment – what should I wear?
It will be helpful if your child wears comfortable clothes and trainers and brings a drink of water with them. If your child wears glasses, hearing aids or splints, please ensure they are worn/brought to the appointment.
With your consent, you may be asked to remove or move clothing so that therapists can easily access and treat the area concerned. For this reason, it is better to wear loose and comfortable clothing that can be easily taken off or moved.
For example, if you are attending a physio appointment for a problem with your legs, you may wish to bring a pair of shorts. For assessment of your neck or arms, a strappy or sleeveless top may be useful.
If for religious or personal reasons you are not happy to undress, please inform your physiotherapist who will be able to adapt the treatment if necessary.
