Learning Disability Awareness Week runs from 16 to 22 June and is dedicated to raising awareness of a range of conditions and the fantastic work our Learning Disability Service do every day in supporting over 5500 people in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Did you know people who have a learning disability are twice as likely to experience mental health issues due discrimination and stigma, so the theme this year is “Do you see me?”

As a leading provider of learning disability services, we have a responsibility to reduce the barriers that people with a learning disability face when accessing services.

Information taken from Mencap Manifesto 2024 state that only 26.7% of adults with a learning disability are employed yet 86% of unemployed people with a learning disability want a paid job.

This week we will celebrate and raise awareness of our peer support workers with lived experience of a learning disability and highlight the contributions people with a learning disability make at our Trust to ensure people with a learning disability are seen, heard, and valued.

During the week we’ll share inspirational stories, highlight our learning disability teams including glowing feedback stories, day in the life video looking at what our occupational therapists get up to on a day to day basis and ask our Learning Disability Nursey Nurse, Pam a question a day, so keep an eye on our socials.
