We are proud to announce that Shelly Brierley who works as a social worker in our Chorley community mental health team has received a nationwide award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the social work profession.

Amazing Social Workers is a campaign championing the exceptional work happening across the UK social work profession. It is run by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW), the UK’s largest professional body for social work.

The awards aim to shine a spotlight on the achievements of individuals and teams in the profession, whilst also highlighting the vital importance of social work to our communities.

A total of 148 individuals and teams were recognised this year, including frontline practitioners, students, managers, leaders, educators and newly qualified social workers. BASW paid tribute to them by featuring their accomplishments on their website and social media channels throughout March and early April as part of their celebrations for World Social Work Day.

Commenting on the awards, BASW UK Chair, Julia Ross said:

“BASW is delighted to once again run the Amazing Social Workers campaign as part of our wider programme of activity to mark World Social Work Day 2024.

It has been an excellent opportunity to recognise examples of inspiring and creative practice, shine a spotlight on our social work community and thank social workers everywhere for the countless positive contributions they’re making to people’s lives.

Everyday, social workers across the UK and beyond do exceptional work advocating for the adults, children and families they support. Their individual and collective efforts are critical to upholding human rights, promoting social justice and working to sustain and support our communities through challenging times.

We received a record number of nominations this year, demonstrating that we have much to be proud of as a profession. Congratulations to everyone who has been nominated, we’ve been privileged to share and celebrate your achievements.”
