160 of our fabulous nursing colleagues gathered ahead of Nurses Day in sunny Blackpool on Friday ahead of Nurses Day today (Monday 12 May), to hear a keynote speech from Dr Mandy Burton, the National Deputy Director of Mental Health Nursing for NHS England.
Held at the Fylde Coast Health and Social Care Academy at Blackpool and the Fylde College, which partners with the NHS, Dr Burton’s presentation was live streamed across four breakout rooms at the college, live from another room.
Our Nurses Day event was opened by our Chief Nurse Oliver Soriano and focussed on nurse wellbeing and development as well as celebrating ongoing innovation and patient centred care.
Our colleagues talked about what made them proud to be a nurse, and were treated to various presentations including how physical health and mental health go hand-in hand and exploring how a culture of continuous improvement through our Culture of Care programme will lead to advancements in patient care and workplace wellbeing.
A number of stands from our Treating Tobacco Dependency Team, our Infection Prevention Control Team and our Occupational Development Team were available to stimulate ideas and a culture of learning among colleagues.
Among the delegates were mental health, learning disability, and district nurses, and primarily it was a day for our nurses to reflect, relax, learn, celebrate and be proud of the dedication they show and the quality patient care they deliver across our communities in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
