A partnership we deliver that gets people with severe mental illness playing football has been recognised at the Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards (PPiMH). Working in collaboration with Burnley and Blackburn Rovers FC in the community, our Burnley and Pendle and Blackburn with Darwen Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) together with our Roving Support Team and support time recovery (STR) workers provide the physical wellbeing to service to our patients.
We were awarded highly commended at the ceremony last week for the project which helps build confidence and resilience alongside fitness while developing camaraderie amongst mental health service users who would previously isolate themselves.
The service is led by STR workers Lee Harvey, Darren Odgen, Shaun Walsh and Peter Grunshaw who encourage participation, build relationships and promote wellbeing.
The partnership work is supported by Suzanne Thornber, Clinical Project Support Manager/Service Manager and Anthony Kenyon, Specialist By Experience (Lead) in Pennine Adult Community Mental Health.
Amazing achievement, well done!
