About the service

We are a team of clinical psychologists, who offer assessment and evidence-based intervention for children, young people and families across Blackpool.

Sometimes this can be direct (for example, working directly with a child or with a family) or indirect (for example, with professionals such as school).

CYPPS is one of several services in Blackpool that support children and young people with emotional well-being. Other services we commonly work alongside that you might be familiar with are Youtherapy and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).

Who do we support?

We work with children and young people up to the age of 16 years.

We offer support for a range of difficulties including:
• Anxiety
• Mood
• Attachment
• Trauma
• Adjustment difficulties (for example, adjusting to a health condition)

The children and young people coming to our service have usually already accessed some form of psychological support.

You can be referred to CYPPS Blackpool by a professional (for example, GP, health, education or social care professional).

You can also self-refer online.

What to expect

Your first appointment with the service is called an initial access appointment.

The purpose of this appointment is to understand a little more about what the problem is and to make sure that CYPPS is the best service to help.

You will be asked some questions about things such as:
• The problem/concern that you have
• Family
• Education
• Hobbies

You will also be asked to complete a questionnaire to help our assessment.

At the end of this appointment a decision is made as to whether CYPPS is the best service to support you.

Intervention

If our service is appropriate to offer support you will work with a clinician to develop a psychological formulation (psychological formulations help us to understand what the problem is, how it developed and why it keeps going).

You and your clinician will then be able to make a plan for therapy

At CYPPS we have clinicians experienced in a number of therapies including:

• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
• Video Interactive Guidance (VIG)
• Narrative Therapy
• Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).

Whitegate Health Centre has facilities including cafe, lift, toilets and car parking for visitors.
