Thank you for your application for fungal nail treatment.

The Podiatry Service no longer provides this type of treatment, we advise you to visit a chemist and speak to a pharmacist who can then advise you on the most suitable treatment or if systemic treatment is need you will need to see your GP.

Fungal nail infections

The fungus that causes Athletes Foot may also infect the toenails. Anyone can develop a fungal nail infection even if they have never had Athletes Foot. The fungus normally invades the nail from the free end or from the side the nail. As the infection spreads slowly towards the base of the nail, the nail changes colour to creamy white or yellow/brown. It may also thicken, become distorted and start to crumble.

Fungal infections can be treated with paints, lacquers (available via chemist) or tablets that are only available on prescription through your GP
