Water Meadow View is a safe and supportive place for adults (aged 18 and over) with learning disabilities who are experiencing mental health challenges. Our team understands the unique health needs of people with learning disabilities. We’re here to help with kindness, respect, and experience.
We work closely with other learning disability services like the Intensive Support Team (IST) and your local community learning disability team. Together, we’ll do everything we can to support you at home first.
Coming into hospital is only considered when it’s the safest option and other support isn’t enough.
If hospital care is needed, we’ll make sure you’re supported every step of the way, with a care plan that’s right for you.
Care and treatment
At Water Meadow View, we believe that everyone is unique, so the care and support we offer is tailored to each person’s individual needs.
We’ll work together with you, your family or carers, and our team of professionals to create a care plan for you. This plan will clearly explain the kind of support you’ll receive and how we’ll help you feel safe and well. Your voice matters, and we’ll make sure you’re involved in every step of your care.
Our service is based on the following principles:
- Holistic approach to care: a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors is completed for each person. A full multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach is supported, and the care is integrated.
- The framework for the service is positive behavioural support (PBS).
- We are a trauma-informed service and aim to support people by creating physically and emotionally safe environments where people feel safe, foster collaboration and encourage relationships. The service will recognise individual cultural factors to shape care and treatment.
- We promote choice and involvement in care and treatment.
- Our service delivers person-centred care. All interventions are individualised, focusing on the specific preferences, strengths, and needs of each person.
- Individuals are treated with dignity and respect, promoting a sense of safety and empowerment.
- Our aim is to minimise the use of restrictive practices, with positive alternatives used as much as possible.
- Families and carers are central to the delivery of care and treatment for people.
