The Health Visiting Service in Blackburn with Darwen will see you at home routinely.

You will be seen for the following contacts:

  • Antenatal contact (between 30 and 36 weeks gestation)
  • New birth visit ( before baby is 14 days old)
  • 6 to 8 weeks (when baby is 6 to 8 weeks old)
  • The 8 to12 month development review and the 2 to 2.5yr development review is routinely offered in a clinic setting.

We are currently operating our child health clinics on an appointment-only basis. If you would like an appointment for one of our child health clinics for yourself or your child please contact your Health Visiting team to book an appointment. Our child health clinics can support with weight checks, growth reviews and general health and wellbeing support and advice.

What services are available?

The service is available to any family with children aged 0-5 years.

Health Visitors work in collaboration with GPs, children's centres and community services to deliver universal, universal plus, universal partnership plus and community services based on the needs of the children and families in their area.

Every GP practice and children's centre has a named link health visitor for information and advice about the service or consultation regarding any child or family.

You can ask the health visitor anything, if they can't help you they will try to find someone who can help you. The health visitor can listen to you if you are worried about being hurt by someone you know or who lives with you.

If being a parent or carer makes you feel upset or sad or it is not what you thought it would be, the health visitor will be able to help you.
